The Utah State Office of Education has designed a 3 Tier Model for Reading Instruction.
Tier 1 consists of the core classroom instruction all students receive.
Tier 2 provides supplemental targeted instruction that addresses the specific needs of individual students. Tier 2 interventions are targeted, scientifically based and aligned with the state core curriculum. It may be thought of as double dosing. For students who have mastered specific skills, Tier 2 may be accelerated or supplemental learning. All Westridge teachers are involved in Tier 2 teaching.
Tier 3 provides intensive, targeted intervention to the most at-risk readers.
